The world’s largest untapped iron ore reserve was unlocked by collaboration between Rio Tinto, Chinese state-owned giants and political pressure from the Guinean government — the result could reshape global iron ore trade

Simandou was regarded as one of the most formidable mining puzzles on Earth. Buried deep under the forested mountains in southeastern Guinea, it holds the world’s largest and highest-grade untapped reserves of open-pit hematite, the primary source of iron.
